Victoria Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreement Lawyers

A marital agreement is the one family law document you get to write while everyone is still on good terms. In Victoria that often means protecting land that has been in a family for generations, a business, or children from an earlier marriage. Michael Ireland & Associates is led by a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist, a distinction held by well under ten percent of Texas family law attorneys. Our team drafts and reviews prenuptial and postnuptial agreements for Victoria couples.

Our Victoria office is in One O’Connor Plaza at 101 W. Goodwin Avenue, Suite 1025, on the north side of De Leon Plaza downtown. We meet clients there in person, by video, or by phone, which helps when one of you is working out of town.

Schedule a no-pressure consultation: call (361) 582-9080 or request a time online. You will talk through your situation with our team and leave knowing what your next step looks like.

★★★★★
Lisa Marie 3/18/26
“From the very first time I walked into his office, Michael showed compassion and understanding for the unique circumstances of my case, which involved my child and a serious medical condition. He immediately recognized how important my child’s safety and wellbeing were to me.

What stood out the most was that he truly listened. He treated our situation with respect, urgency, and care. Michael is also incredibly knowledgeable, and his experience and confidence were evident throughout the entire process. Because of this, I always felt supported and reassured that we were in the best hands.

I’m incredibly grateful for his help and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an attorney who truly cares about the families he represents.

If I ever need legal help again, he will be the first person I would call.”

Family Law We Handle in Victoria

A marital agreement touches the same issues a Victoria divorce would. Our core prenuptial and postnuptial agreements page explains what a Texas marital agreement can and cannot do. The related matters below are each handled on their own page:

    • Divorce: Agreed, contested, military, and high-asset divorce from filing to final decree.
    • Child custody: Conservatorship, possession schedules, and decisions about your children.
    • Child support: Setting, negotiating, and enforcing support for your children.
    • Spousal support: Whether spousal maintenance applies in your case, and for how long.
    • Property division: Dividing the marital estate, including homes, land, businesses, and retirement accounts.
    • Paternity: Establishing legal fatherhood and the rights that follow.
    • Mediation: A confidential, lower-conflict path to settle without a trial.

Michael Ireland & Associates, 101 W Goodwin Ave, Victoria, TX 77901.
Victoria County and the surrounding Crossroads region Four district courts serve Victoria County. The 24th, 135th, and 267th Judicial Districts each cover Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio, and Victoria counties, and sit at the Victoria County Courthouse, 115 N. Bridge St., Victoria, TX 77901.

The 377th Judicial District covers Victoria County alone and sits at 101 N. Bridge St. New cases are filed with the Victoria County District Clerk, 115 N. Bridge St., Room 330.

A prenuptial or postnuptial agreement generally does not require a court filing when it is signed. A postmarital partition or exchange agreement may be recorded in county deed records, particularly where real property is involved. If a divorce is later filed in Victoria County, the agreement may be presented to the court handling that case, and its enforceability can be challenged. Victoria County is served by the 24th, 135th, 267th, and 377th Judicial District Courts. Drafting with that eventual audience in mind is most of the work, and our office sits across De Leon Plaza from the courthouse.

Why Victoria Families Trust Michael Ireland & Associates

The first call is about what you are protecting, not a sales pitch. We start by listening to what each of you is bringing into the marriage and what you want settled in advance. You will get a straight read on what an agreement can realistically do.

We draft Victoria agreements with a future judge in mind. We focus on voluntary signing, appropriate financial disclosure, and enough time for each person to review the agreement carefully.[3] Independent legal review can also help reduce later disputes, though Texas does not require it. We build that discipline into the process from the start.

You can reach us, and you will know where things stand. Agreements tend to run against a wedding date. Clients tell us the difference is responsiveness: drafts turned around promptly, questions answered in plain English, and a clear schedule.

We are built for the agreements that are not simple. Closely held businesses, blended families, and second marriages with adult children all run through this firm. In the Crossroads that often means family land and mineral interests as well.

No promises about the outcome. A commitment to the preparation. No lawyer can guarantee that an agreement will never be challenged. What we commit to is drafting and documentation careful enough to give it the strongest footing we can.

What to Expect When You Call

Our consultation is built around three things you need before any decisions get made:

    • We listen first. Tell us what is going on. The short version is fine, and we will ask the questions that matter.
    • We explain what Texas law says. In plain English, with no lecture and no scare tactics.
    • We map your next step. You will leave knowing what comes next: filing, responding, gathering records, or taking time to think it through.

    Frequently Asked Questions

No. You do not have to live in Victoria County simply to enter a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement. Signing the agreement generally does not require filing a case with the Victoria County District Clerk. If a postmarital agreement transfers real property, it may be recorded in the county deed records where the property sits. We work with couples across the Crossroads region and from our other South-Central Texas offices.

The district court assigned to the divorce may review it. Victoria County is served by the 24th, 135th, 267th, and 377th Judicial District Courts, three of which sit at the Victoria County Courthouse at 115 N. Bridge Street, with the 377th nearby at 101 N. Bridge Street. We draft with that review in mind.

Largely, yes. Many couples prefer at least one meeting downtown at One O’Connor Plaza, and the connected parking garage makes that easy. Drafts and revisions are routinely handled by video, phone, and secure file transfer. We recommend that each of you have your own attorney review the final document before signing.
